The Master inquired of Gongming Jia about Gongshu Wenzi, asking: "Is it true that your master never speaks, never laughs, and never takes anything?" Gongming Jia replied: "Whoever told you that was mistaken. He speaks only when the moment calls for it, so people do not tire of his words; he laughs only when he is truly glad, so people do not tire of his laughter; he takes only what is rightfully his, so people do not resent his taking." The Master said: "Can that be so? Can it really be so?"
