子(zǐ)曰(yuē)：「后(hòu)生(shēng)可(kě)畏(wèi)，焉(yān)知(zhī)来(lái)者(zhě)之(zhī)不(bù)如(rú)今(jīn)也(yě)？四(sì)十(shí)、五(wǔ)十(shí)而(ér)无(wú)闻(wén)焉(yān)，斯(sī)亦(yì)不(bù)足(zú)畏(wèi)也(yě)已(yǐ)。」

The Master said: "The young are to be held in awe — how can one be sure that those who come after will not surpass those of today? Yet a man who has reached forty or fifty and still has no reputation worth speaking of — he, indeed, is no longer worthy of awe."
